Book Summary:
The well-known and very popular Catholic couple, Scott and Kimberly Hahn, have been constantly travelling and speaking all over North America for the last few years about their conversion to the Catholic Church. Now these two outstanding Catholic apologists tell in their own words about the incredible spiritual journey that led them to embrace Catholicism. Scott Hahn was a Presbyterian minister, the top student in his seminary class, a brilliant Scripture scholar, and militantly anti-Catholic ... until he reluctantly began to discover that his "enemy" had all the right answers. Kimberly, also a top-notch theology student in the seminary, is the daughter of a well-known Protestant minister, and went through a tremendous "dark night of the soul" after Scott converted to Catholicism. Their conversion story and love for the Church has captured the hearts and minds of thousands of lukewarm Catholics and brought them back into an active participation in the Church. They have also influenced countless conversions to Catholicism among their friends and others who have heard their powerful testimony. Written with simplicity, charity, grace and wit, the Hahns' deep love and knowledge of Christ and of Scripture is evident and contagious throughout their story. Their love of truth and of neighbor is equally evident, and their theological focus on the great importance of the family, both biological and spiritual, will be a source of inspiration for all readers.

Rome Sweet Home: Our Journey to Catholicism
5 Stars Little wonder anti-Catholics hate this book
on November 9, 1999
Although I'm not a Roman Catholic, I am a reasonable person and a devout Bible-believing Christian, capable of recognizing an airtight biblical case for Catholicism. That's exactly what I found in Rome Sweet Home. For the first time, I also now recognize something else that's even more disturbing, and that is, how foolish I've been in attacking the faith of Roman Catholics with the same kind of blind arrogance exhibited by Pastor Whalen in his review (see below). We need to be honest with ourselves, as Bible Christians, and admit that we have never been able to take Catholics seriously as fellow-believers, mostly because we have never allowed ourselves to be exposed to a sustained presentation of the biblical basis for Catholic beliefs, like Hahn does in Rome Sweet Home. No wonder Pastor Whalen admits to feeling "overwhelmed" and "sick to my stomach". Humble pie has a way of doing that.

4 Stars A good book for Catholics, non Catholics, and those making their way home
on November 23, 2016
I loved reading about their journey to the church. Scott has a great way of clarifying doctrines, shining new light on them, and making them easy to understand. The only things I disliked were a) it gets repetitive hearing every detail from Scott and then from Kimberly and b) Kimberly often comes across as extremely melodramatic and a bit ridiculous. But I grew up Methodist and not evangelical, so maybe I just don't understand the mindset.

3 Stars Somewhat helpful

The book was helpful in helping me grapple with certain issues as I consider converting to Catholicism. However, the conversion of Scott was not inspiring. He came off as very prideful. He bragged about how good a teacher he was at every opportunity and how he frequently knew so much more than everyone else. Also, it seemed like he turned to the Catholic Church because it validated his own heavenly family New Testament convenant theory. In some ways, it felt more like an academic, intellectual decision than a spiritual one. I missed a sense of humility and awe with his conversion and it came off as self-absorbed. Kimberly's conversion was more inspiring. She did not convert until she felt God leading her to convert even though her marriage suffered for several years. She described what appeared to be genuine moments of heavenly inspiration. It was an interesting read.

5 Stars Beautiful personal story of a logical and thoughtful convertion.

In this book, Scott and his wife Kimberly describe, in a personal way, the process of their coming home to the Catholic Church. It is not a sentimental story, but rather a logical and thoughtful process where long study and prayer guided them to the truth. It inspired me as a Catholic to want to know and learn more about the beauty of the Church and her teachings, and how she is Bible-centered and Christ-centered. Beautiful!

5 Stars This is one of the best Catholic books in print

This is one of the best Catholic books in print. The Hahn's are superb writers and I could not put it down. It is a story of their journey to the Catholic faith not a book on apologetics. That said my wife and I learned a great deal about my own faith and grew deeper in my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Do not read this unless you want the truth about the Catholic Church.

5 Stars Great Read

I enjoyed this book very much. As a life long Catholic I was reminded of the gift of our Catholic faith that we so often take for granted. I was very impressed with all the reflection done by Scott and Kimberly as they studied the early teachings of the Christian community through the Scriptures and the early Church Fathers. The power of the real presence in the Eucharist is so beautifully described as central to their faith journey. It was a joy and inspiration to read this book. It helped to deepen my own faith. Loved too the understanding of Mary's role in our lives.

This book is incredible. My husband and I are both going through the RCIA course at our local parish, and we could relate to so much of this book! Scott Hahn is open and honest, and relatable; this is a very easy read about his journey to becoming Catholic (and his wife's journey, as well). Definitely a must-read if you're contemplating become Catholic!

5 Stars Be careful with this book or you may end up Catholic like me

About three years ago I was a staunch anti-Catholic, non-denominational Christian. I very reluctantly read this book, only because I thought I could easily refute its claims. Apparently I was wrong because this Easter I celebrated my second anniversary as a confirmed Catholic. I owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Hahn and his wife for opening my eyes to the fullness of truth found only in the Church founded by Jesus Christ, himself: The Catholic Church.
