For those of us who did NOT grow up with the Latin Mass, this book makes things SO much easier and makes the Mass so much more enjoyable.
If you have the privileged to attend a Latin Mass this booklet in invaluable you can keep track of were you are and the appropriate time to make the sign of the cross and kneel. Highly recommended.
The first time I attended the Tridentine Mass (or the Extraordinary form of the Mass), I just went in all by myself. I had heard of "the little red book" but given that I was nervous, I overlooked it. However, the next time I attended I made special note to find this little booklet and read it through the Mass. It was such a life saver. It teaches you not only what was traditionally done, but WHY it was done. For example, I've always seen my folks and other fellow parishioners sign their head, mouth, and heart before the Gospel. Unfortunately, I NEVER learned why until this booklet came into my life.
It packs so much detail and coverage of the Mass and other important aspects of the Faith relating to the Mass. From prayers, to how to examine your conscience for Confession, to even the songs sang throughout the Mass.
I would recommend this book to beginners who want to participate in the Latin Mass. However, I do highly recommend to just go in there "blind" for the first time, that is to say without the booklet. Enjoy the Mass first and then understand why it is done the way it is. After a while, the booklet will be there to help you keep pace or share with others should they be new to the Mass. Just remember to not focus too much on the book that you miss the Sacrifice of Christ.
Simple, clear and easy way to introduce yourself to the old rite of the Church, a must get!
If you're just dipping your toes into the Latin Mass, I can't think of a better missal to buy than this. It's very simple and concise, and on the sides of each there are special notes that provide even greater clarity of what is going on during the Mass.Open the door and being your new journey to the TLM with this starter!
My church uses these books for their Latin Masses and we thought it would be good to have our own. This book is amazing. The margin notes help you understand what is happening up at the altar and bring you into a deeper connection with priest. The prayers at the front and back are extremely valuable and can provide good topics to meditate on before Mass or simply at home. I highly recommend owning this if you go to Latin Mass or are just curious to know what goes on.
Not only does this missal contain the Ordinary of the Mass with great notes on each part, it also has a small Kyriale, a collection of prayers, and a section dedicated to Confession. I was honestly surprised with how much was stuffed into this tiny missal. Great for newcomers to the Latin Mass but robust enough for someone who regularly attends the Latin Mass and doesn't want or need a missal with all the Propers.
