The Catechism of the Council of Trent
Publisher: Baronius Press
Publication Date: January 1, 2018
The Council of Trent was initially called to counter the Protestant Revolt by unambiguously affirming the distinctive truths of the Catholic faith. To disseminate these truths, the Council of Trent commanded a Catechism to be written. Composed under the supervision of St. Charles Borromeo and promulgated by St. Pope St. Pius V, its value as an authoritative exposition of the Catholic faith has only increased through the centuries.
While the catechism was originally intended for priests to use alongside the Sacred Scriptures in defending the faith, its straightforward and logical explanation of Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings has made it a useful reference and guide for the laity more than 400 years after it was first published. Today, it continues to enlighten souls who seek to discern between true and false teachings.
This edition is the definitive translation of the Catechism of the Council of Trent from the original Latin. The catechism covers four main area: the Articles of Faith, the Seven Sacraments, the Ten Commandments, and the Lord’s Prayer. However, in addition to this there are also appendices on the Immaculate Conception, Papal Infallibility, Christian Marriage and on Frequent and Daily Communion.
"The Roman Catechism has for more than four centuries been the single most authoritative one-volume, carefully organized, easily readable, and clearly expressed synthesis of Roman Catholicism." – Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.
"That golden book known as the Catechism of the Council of Trent, or Roman Catechism … Noted both for the abundance and accuracy of its teaching and for elegance of style, this catechism is a precious summary of the whole of theology, dogmatic and moral." – Pope Leo XIII, Encyclical Depuis Le Jour.
What's to be said about such a tome? Well, I guess I could say it's way better than the paperback they sell you at the cathedral gift shop, that's for sure. It seems to be written with the parish priest in mind, as it has a lot of instructions for how to preach this or that point, but it's still perfectly suited to the lay-reader. It goes pretty deep into mysteries, which I appreciate having been so poorly catechised. This Trent guy really knows his stuff!
When I had gotten this copy of the Catechism of the Council of Trent, it was amazing to see how the original Catechism was reproduced, with one of the best translations of it into English that I had ever seen. The translator's addition of their own footnotes as well really helped me to understand our Catholic faith even more. In short, I highly recommend that anyone who doesn't have a copy of the Catechism of the Council of Trent to please purchase it here, because of how good this edition of the Catechism is.
You ever wonder what the Church has really historically taught? Did you ever want to be able to counter Susan from the Parish council when she says that #LoveIsLove? A great tool for apologetics, but also for understanding the faith and understanding WHY certain things are taught- or condemned. Also, it looks great
THE MOST OUTSTANDING SUMMARY OF CATHOLIC TRADITION I HAVE READ! But I'm left wondering WHY?, our Magisterium is not using, promoting & teaching this to every Catholic regardless of age or station? Maybe because some don't like the truths it contains? This might be the book on which our faith hinges moving towards an unknown future
The Catechism showed up just when expected in great condition. It really is a very beautiful book physically. Nice hardcover with gold inlay on the cover, no real bleed through on the pages, and what appears to be a sewn binding. Paper is a subtle cream color that looks very classy. Basically, if you've ever gotten a Baronius Press hardcover volume before, you know what you're getting here. Would highly recommend!
Highly recomend every Catholic own this masterpiece of chatechesis. Im soooo impressed with the quality of the instruction as well as the book itself. It's well made and had great leathery smell when I received it.
An important Catechism for every Catholic to own. The information in this Catechism should largely be considered as relevant today as it was when it was originally published. St. Pius X, pray for us!
Really enjoying going back to the basics of the Catholic faith and getting a better understanding.
It looks really nice displayed in my living room.
The Catechism of the Council of Trent is best catechism out there if you ask me.
