Fr. Gabriele Amorth

Fr. Amorth was an Italian Roman Catholic Priest and an exorcist of the Diocese of Rome who performed tens of thousands of exorcisms over his sixty plus years as a Catholic Priest. As the appointed exorcist for the diocese of Rome, Father Amorth was the Vatican's Exorcist in Chief. In 1990, he founded the International Association of Exorcists and was president until he retired in 2000. He was Honorary President for life of the association until his death.

One of the issues that Fr. Amorth was particularly concerned about in his books was the dire need for exorcists in the world. With the waning belief in sin and evil, most people don't consider the possibility of contacting an exorcist. It was Fr. Amorth's hope, particularly in An Exorcist Tells His Story, that there would be an increased awareness of the diabolic in this world, so that the laity would be better prepared to use the Catholic clergy resources at their disposal to exorcise the demons from their lives.

One last noteworthy mention is that Fr. Amorth wanted to highlight the power of confession, which he says is exponentially more powerful than the rite of exorcism. So in addition to seeking out exorcists when needed, Fr. Amorth also encouraged people to go to confession frequently.
