Biographical Note:
Pope Benedict XIV (1675-1758) was born to a noble family in Bologna, and baptized as Prospero Lorenzo Lambertini. He soon distinguished himself for his piety, humility, diplomacy and scholarship. As a cardinal and Pope, he was instrumental in implementing the reforms of Trent and re-invigorating Thomistic theology. As an author and scholar, he was, and still remains, far more prolific than any other pontiff in history, with his Opera Omnia filling many weighty tomes, and being published in numerous editions.
