J. R. R. Tolkien:

J. R. R. Tolkien was an English writer, poet, philologist, and university professor who is best known as the author of the classic high fantasy works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. Tolkien was a very devout Roman Catholic and is credited with influencing C.S. Lewis's conversion from atheism to Christianity, although Tolkien was disappointed that C.S. Lewis had joined the Church of England rather than Roman Catholicism. Tolkien was quite dismayed by some of the liturgical reforms and changes implemented after the Second Vatican Council, so much so that he would continue to make all his responses loudly in Latin while the rest of the congregation would respond in English.

Good for Children, Too

There are glimpses of very dark evils in The Hobbit, but as yet I think it a good book to read with children. It is written like such a fairytale.

A Wonderful Fantasy Story

I heard much about Tolkien’s work before reading The Hobbit and once I completed it I wholeheartedly understand why people love it. It’s a timeless story of adventure that you should read if you haven’t yet experienced it.

A classic

Enjoyed this book, first book I've read from J.R.R Tolkien will definitely buy the Lord of the Rings to continue the story.

don't let the movie fool you

Don't let the movie fool you, this was an amazing book. Before the movie came out, I was quite excited because it's such a hearty story in one single book. Everyone talks about the trilogy, but if you feel too intimidated to start climbing that mountain of 3 books, start with The Hobbit then. I enjoyed it immensely!
