The first book in the Father Baptist series.
Who is killing the Catholic bishops of Los Angeles? One by one, they're dying horribly. The clues surrounding the murders point to an occult connection and the police are stumped. Fr. John Baptist, cop-turned-priest, and Martin Feeney, his faithful gardener-turned-chronicler, are ordered by the anxious archbishop to get to the root of this baffling mystery. Together they uncover a terrifying conspiracy that threatens their faith, their sanity, and their very lives. Such awaits all who get entangled in the Endless Knot.

Due to the heavy content, this is not recommended for young adults.

Great gift!

I got this as a gift for a family member. He hasn't been into reading for a while, but I saw him reading this one. I may have to read it myself when he's finished

Great Characters, Fascinating Story

One of my favorite devastatingly accurate lines from this book:

“Somehow he had eluded the euphonious clutches of his wife and the Ever-Twangin’ Mostly-Saggin’ Steel Pluckers to attend Mass at St. Philomena’s.”

Sadly, I finished this book all too quickly. Now I must wait for the next one. “Lord, I don’t remember praying for patience…”

Amazing

This book is light hearted, serious about matters of the faith, and a page turner. I do not know how this is not a movie yet. Call up Mel Gibson or somebody. One of my favorite fiction books all time.

Excellent fiction, and a lot more

This is a wonderfully executed mystery novel. The pacing is good, always leaving you wanting to read one more chapter. The author's voice is distinct and expressive. His characters leap from the page, fully alive. You can see in them any number of people you know or wish you knew. This is especially true of one Pierre Bontemps, if you are an Off the Menu listener.

However, it is much more than simply a mystery novel. The Catholic faith is imbued throughout the story. You also get a hopefully-but-maybe-not exaggerated at times depiction of a post-conciliar diocese gone wrong and a caricatured-but-not-that-much Traditionalist parish. It is comical to say the least.

Overall I highly recommend this book, not just to Trads who will certainly appreciate it, but really anyone who likes a good mystery.

A good satire of the Trad movement

This book, in my opinion, was one of the funniest and greatest books I've read. There are parts of it that read like the crime novel that it is, and other times it reads like a golden satire on the problems in the Traditionalist movement, the author shining a light on some of the more obtuse members of the movement. Plus, it features an argument with America's favourite Renewable Resourse and Igneous Americans' Rights Activist and a New Age Witch. In short, what's not to love?

Great mystery!

The Endless Knot is a fun modern-day Catholic mystery with a great cast of characters! There’s a mixture of serious, humor, Faith issues, and hilarious commentary! I look forward to reading more of this author!

Delightful and refreshing writing style

It’s an absolute page-turner. I honestly think, as a recent convert, that one could gift this book to a non-Catholic and they would enjoy it immensely. In fact it might prove all the more fascinating to them. It’s a actually well-written! So much better than the vast majority of fiction anymore.

The Endless Knot

Little did I know when I ordered this little gem that I would be reading it nonstop from start to finish and ordering the rest of the series!!
The characters are incredible. Martin Feeney keeps me laughing with his little remarks and I find myself yearning for a good priest like Fr. Baptist and a parish like St. Philomena’s!

Late to the party -- but what a party!

I wish I had discovered the Father Baptist series years ago. The Endless Knot had me hooked from the start, and now I am working my way through the books in order. Priest/detective Father John Baptist, his "Watson", Martin Feeney, The Knights Tumblar -- one of whom, "mind you" (that's a clue, son), may remind you of a certain other Tumblar House author -- what a great cast of characters! Now the rectory at St. Philomena has become as cozy a hangout as 221B Baker Street. Highly recommended!

The Endless Knot

This is a great fiction work for Catholics who want excitement and adventure on par with any of the “mainstream” blockbuster series without having to worry about the overt and subliminal anti-Catholic or immoral messages that come along with them. It’s also a great gift for non-Catholic friends who love to read as a way to introduce them to Catholicism through great literature. If you enjoy the antics and brilliance of Professor Biersach and/or Charles Coulombe on Tumblar House, you will love this book.

Great Trad Fun with Mystery and, most importantly, the Faith

A tremendously fun read that holds your attention from the very beginning to the end. However, the book more importantly shows the Faith in everyday action with everyday people and it shows that the Faith is fun and amazing and hard. A warning though is that the book is addictive and I can't wait to read the others in the series. I do hope Mr. Biersach keeps on writing more than just the five books.

Fun and Addicting

The main characters of The Endless Knot are lovable and have great character evolution. Anybody who likes an adventure mystery and Catholicism will love this book.

A Crowning Achievement

The mixture of macabre, serious Catholic commentary, and satire in such tasteful fashion is a crowning achievement that no other writer would dare attempt. The wit and humor found within The Endless Knot are also very rare commodities for Catholic novelists, as they permeate the novel in such a way that you’re always 100% tuned in, for fear that you’ll miss any juicy little tidbit. Mixed together, these ingredients make a special cocktail that you will want to savor over and over again.
