Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Publication Date: June 1, 1988
Format: Library Binding
It's pretty good. Its quick and easy to do prayers for each part of the day. My issue is that this version has some protestant hymns and is post-1960. Although it may be more traditional compared to more modern versions, a pre-1960 versoon would be better in my opinion.
First off - Catholic Book Publishing did a wonderful job with this little book! It is small enough to carry with you if you so desire and is beautifully bound and decorated. It comes with a ribbon bookmark which makes it even easier to keep your place when you return for your next prayer. It is absolutely a delight to hold and look at, and that is only to say about what is on the outside.
Now, for the contents!
If you are a beginner, who is trying to get into the habit of daily prayer, but afraid to dive into a breviary, which can have complicated flipping back and forth, and require examination of the calendar before getting started - the Little Office is absolutely perfect. It will help cultivate a daily prayer routine with a simple format, as well as instill greater devotion to our Lady with its well picked sermons from many saints, and Scripture passages.
As an added bonus - the book comes with special prayers to Mary in the back, such as the Angelus and various litanies.
This Little Breviary is essentially the readings for days consecrated to Mary from the Book of Christian Prayer and the Four Volume Liturgy of the Hours. It is a wonderful way to get used to the format while also getting closer to Our Lady. I believe that this can also be the supplement for saying a daily rosary if you are enrolled in the brown scapular or the full consecration to Mary. A wonderful breviary to recite, especially on Marian feast days and Saturdays for Mary.
The Marian quotes by the saints and the hymns are a wonderful way to get closer to Our Blessed Mother and Queen. This book is a real blessing.
This book is the best way to pray to Our Lady alongside the Liturgical calendar. The prayers are incredibly beautiful!
