In an age defined by isolation and digital distraction, We Are Only Saved Together offers a timely reminder that true joy and meaning are found in authentic community, shared life, and friendship with the poor. Drawing on the spirit of the Catholic Worker movement, Colin Miller calls readers to rediscover the Gospel’s communal heart and the Church’s tradition of solidarity.

While completing his doctorate in theology at Duke University, Miller befriended a group of homeless men living outside a local church. What began as simple encounters grew into deep friendships that revealed the Gospel’s true power—not merely to meet physical needs, but to transform lives through shared humanity. These experiences, combined with the witness of Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin, led Miller to cofound a Catholic Worker House centered on prayer, simplicity, and fellowship.

This book is not a call to become a fringe Catholic or activist; it is a call to become fully Catholic—embracing the ancient and essential practices of community, hospitality, and love of the poor. Inspired by the “little way” of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Miller offers practical ways to live out this vision today, including:

  • Sharing meals and cultivating table fellowship

  • Reframing encounters with poverty through the parable of the Good Samaritan

  • Living closer to the land and rediscovering meaningful work

  • Embracing voluntary simplicity and spiritual freedom

We Are Only Saved Together invites readers to embark on an adventure of friendship, faith, and joy in the heart of the Church. It is a vision of holiness so old it feels new.
