The Endless Knot

The mixture of macabre, serious Catholic commentary, and satire in such tasteful fashion is a crowning achievement that no other writer would dare attempt. The wit and humor found within The Endless Knot are also very rare commodities for Catholic novelists, as they permeate the novel in such a way that you’re always 100% tuned in, for fear that you’ll miss any juicy little tidbit. Mixed together, these ingredients make a special cocktail that you will want to savor over and over again.

I got this as a gift for a family member. He hasn't been into reading for a while, but I saw him reading this one. I may have to read it myself when he's finished

One of my favorite devastatingly accurate lines from this book:

“Somehow he had eluded the euphonious clutches of his wife and the Ever-Twangin’ Mostly-Saggin’ Steel Pluckers to attend Mass at St. Philomena’s.”

Sadly, I finished this book all too quickly. Now I must wait for the next one. “Lord, I don’t remember praying for patience…”

This book is light hearted, serious about matters of the faith, and a page turner. I do not know how this is not a movie yet. Call up Mel Gibson or somebody. One of my favorite fiction books all time.

If you enjoy a classic story of mystery which ties into moral issues this is your book.

This is a wonderfully executed mystery novel. The pacing is good, always leaving you wanting to read one more chapter. The author's voice is distinct and expressive. His characters leap from the page, fully alive. You can see in them any number of people you know or wish you knew. This is especially true of one Pierre Bontemps, if you are an Off the Menu listener.

However, it is much more than simply a mystery novel. The Catholic faith is imbued throughout the story. You also get a hopefully-but-maybe-not exaggerated at times depiction of a post-conciliar diocese gone wrong and a caricatured-but-not-that-much Traditionalist parish. It is comical to say the least.

Overall I highly recommend this book, not just to Trads who will certainly appreciate it, but really anyone who likes a good mystery.

This book, in my opinion, was one of the funniest and greatest books I've read. There are parts of it that read like the crime novel that it is, and other times it reads like a golden satire on the problems in the Traditionalist movement, the author shining a light on some of the more obtuse members of the movement. Plus, it features an argument with America's favourite Renewable Resourse and Igneous Americans' Rights Activist and a New Age Witch. In short, what's not to love?

The Endless Knot is a fun modern-day Catholic mystery with a great cast of characters! There’s a mixture of serious, humor, Faith issues, and hilarious commentary! I look forward to reading more of this author!
