Book 4 in the West Brothers contemporary Christian young adult fiction series. When the path is not clear... When temptation is near... When God speaks in a whisper you can barely hear... Ever since that life-changing night in the canyon, Jarret has felt the presence of the Lord in his soul. Now that presence is fading. Is it his fault? How will he remain faithful without it when he still struggles against the same temptations? Questioning whether he has a true calling, Keefe reads everything he can about St. Francis and the Franciscans, but he’s afraid to talk to his father about the Franciscans' upcoming discernment retreat because his father seems closed to faith. Is he ready to go all in?

Sexuality: Mild A teenage boy struggles to remain pure. He tries to plan his activities with his new girlfriend, hoping to avoid situations of temptation. In one scene, he thinks about wanting to kiss her but doesn’t. In another scene, a teenage girl makes advances on a boy. They kiss passionately, the boy thinking that he needs to back off but unable to do so until his phone rings. Later in the story, lies spread that a boy character took advantage of a girl. Violence & Gore: Mild A character discovers that his younger brother (who is getting around with crutches at this point in the story) was the subject of a cruel prank (he was held down and given a spray tan). Despite the internal warning, the character seeks revenge and beats up the boy he thinks is guilty. A character seeks revenge in another scene but repents midway to his intended target and allows another kid to beat him up. Feeling the weight of his past sins, he chooses not to defend himself. Profanity: None A character thinks “no way in hell” about giving into temptation. This leads to him analyzing the saying and realizing that if he’d continued down the path he was on, without repenting, that’s where he’d end up. Bad language is indicated with phrases like “questions laced with curse words” and he said “a bad name and a curse for C.W.” Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: Mild Teens smoke and drink in one scene, the main character uncomfortable with the situation and debating what to do about it since they are in his house. A teen resists the urge to smoke but then caves in. His battle to do the right thing is evident.

Theresa Linden:

Raised in a military family, Theresa Linden developed strong patriotism and a sense of adventure. She began writing in grade school and her passion for writing has never waned. Love for faith, family, and freedom inspired her to write the Chasing Liberty trilogy, a dystopian story about a future she hopes never becomes a reality. She is also the author of award-winning "Roland West, Loner" the first in a series of Catholic teen fiction. A member of the Catholic Writers Guild and the International Writers Association, she balances her time between family, homeschooling, and writing. She lives in northeast Ohio with her husband, their three teenage boys, and a sweet old dog named Rudy.

Editorial Reviews

It's not easy to reinvent yourself while you're still in high school, as Jarret West discovers as he seeks a way to turn his life around after an intense spiritual experience. His twin brother couldn't be more different: Keefe contemplates joining the Franciscan friars. Theresa Linden recounts twin spiritual quests in her newest novel, STANDING STRONG. --~Barb Szyszkiewicz, editor at CatholicMom.com

Readers will enjoy following the West brother twins, Jarret and Keefe, as they try to discern God s will for their lives. Though their once intertwined lives diverge, each will have to show fortitude and perseverance in following the paths laid out before them. For Jarret, his past sins, anger and flirtatious ways with girls, cultivated over the years, will be his biggest temptations. For Keefe, uncertainty, insecurity, and fear could keep him from hearing God s call. Both will doubt and struggle to do the right thing.

Another chapter in Theresa Linden s masterfully-developed series for teens that will resonate with everyone who has struggled to find his place in the world, been tempted to take the easy way out, or doubted the work of God s hand in his life. A realistic portrait of the slow and subtle work of grace in our lives. --~Carolyn Astfalk, author of coming-of-age romance Rightfully Ours

I was so excited when I found out that Theresa Linden, one of my absolute favorite authors for teens, had written a new novel in her West Brothers series. Ever since the release a couple years ago of ROLAND WEST, LONER, the first book in the set, I've been totally in love with her characters and dying to read their further adventures. Her new story, STANDING STRONG does not disappoint!

The chapters alternate between the two brothers and their soul-wrenching interior battles. Linden is a master at getting inside the heads of today's teenagers, and her own deep faith and love of God shine through and inspire on every page. After reading STANDING STRONG your own spiritual life cannot but be strengthened, making you also want to stand strong for God. Highly recommended! --~Susan Peek, author of Saint Magnus: The Last Viking and other fast-paced saint stories

Amazing work!!

Theresa Linden never fails to disappoint! I've been a fan of hers since I won "Battle for His Soul" in a giveaway a few years ago and I have never looked back. Since then, I've read the whole West Brothers series, and I have loved each book. "Standing Strong" is a strong depiction of the teenage inner battle of choice both in temptations and vocations, and the struggle of making the right choice after a long journey down the wrong path. Always amazing work & I look forward to reading more books in the series in the future!
