Jacques Maritain and Human Rights

Jacques Maritain was among the Catholic thinkers most closely involved in the drafting of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This study examines how he grounded human rights in natural law and in the dignity of the person.

The book follows Maritain's thought from his early work through his mature political philosophy, showing how a Thomist account of the person shaped a whole tradition of reflection on rights, the common good and the limits of the state.
