My Path to Heaven: A Young Person's Guide to the Faith
Publication Date: June 1, 2005
Based on the traditional St. Ignatius retreat (trusted by Catholics for centuries) and adapted for children, this clear, simple, thoughtful presentation of the Faith is invaluable for parents seeking to form their children in holiness.
My Path to Heaven covers such essentials of the Faith as God s will, angels, Heaven and Hell, the Fall of man, the Holy Trinity, the Incarnation, the Nativity, the Passion, salvation, the sacraments, faith, hope, love, and contrition, and it teaches children the relevance of these truths in their lives and in the decisions they make.
This unique book is:
Practical: it focuses on proper devotion and right action, not feelings;
Serious: it acknowledges and speaks to the deep seriousness that attentive parents know lies in the hearts of even the very youngest children;
Substantial: it considers central points of the Faith and addresses the issues that face every Christian, even the youngest;
Prayerful: by speaking reverently of holy things, it inspires children to develop in devotion to Jesus, Mary, and the saints;
Scriptural: chapters include numerous Scripture references.

I had given this book to a young man over 10 years ago. Later, his mother told me the great impact it had had on her son. I forgot about it until I saw it for sale here and when looking for a spiritually enriching gift for a Godchild as part of his Christmas present I bought it. It really is very well done. Little yet profound lessons and the illustrations (which a box of colored pencils would be nice to give too) are very engaging. It’s orthodox too, which is very important.
We love this book for learning to pray via Christian meditation - it is not just for children! Our children (and I) love pondering the artwork, which is so rich for thought and prayer. We are doing one chapter per week, putting the art up next to our beds to pray about before sleeping (as is suggested). The children and I have grown in our prayer life and on our journey toward heaven. Can be used with children as young as 3 or 4 yr, all the way through to adult. We are even considering starting an informal group of the Apostleship of Prayer, to offer our prayers and sacrifices to the missions.
